Our...
Favorite eats near the racecourse:
Juan in a Million,
2300 East Cesar Chavez Street

For 25 years, Juan in a Million has blended unique, authentic and creative food with great service and atmosphere. Try their breakfast tacos - the Don Juan will appease your "healthy" appetite. Open 7 am-3pm.

Mr. Natural, 1901 East Cesar Chavez St

A simple, relaxed environment located just minutes from the race course, Mr. Natural is a natural foods restaurant, bakery, juice bar and health food store all rolled into one. The adjacent restaurant offers non-dairy, wheat-free, vegan or vegetarian food using all natural ingredients to create unique Mexican vegetarian dishes. Open 8am-8pm.

Whole Foods Market World Headquarters, 525 North Lamar Boulevard

It’s a playground for food lovers (and only 5-10 minutes from the race course)! Shop for tasty, wholesome treats, and enjoy lunch outside in the courtyard. Your taste buds will appreciate the world cuisine buffet (or the sandwich shop, Italian kitchen, sushi station, fresh desserts, and coffee… the list is endless).

Food for Celebrating after the Regatta:

Trudy's Bar and Grill, 8820 Burnet Road

Great Tex-Mex food and large-party friendly. Locals recommend the Stuffed Avocado and Mexican martini! The central location on 30th Street is the original since 1977, and a favorite among locals and students. Or, head over to the north location on Burnet for easy parking and plenty of room for the family.

Kerbey Lane Café, 3704 Kerbey Lane
Magnolia Café, 2304 Lake Austin Boulevard
Two original Austin restaurants with laid-back atmospheres and menus featuring Tex-Mex, homestyle, and vegetarian-friendly food. Try the chips and queso! Did we mention breakfast is served 24 hours? Parking can be tricky, so carpool safely!

Hotel Notes:
Courtyard by Marriott Austin NW Arboretum
9409 Stonelake Boulevard
Austin, TX 78759
(800) 431-1577
I recommend staying in the Arboretum neighborhood. You can SAVE more $$ if you don’t mind a 15-20 minute drive to and from the race course. You’ll be situated among plenty of restaurants, shops, and several movie theaters if you still have post-regatta energy.

Holiday Inn TOWN LAKE
20 North I-35
Austin, TX 78701
(800) 593-5676
If you’re all about the beauty rest, stay right on Town Lake. You can walk or bike to the race course and afterward explore downtown.

To play and see:

The Alamo Drafthouse, North Austin, 13729 Research Blvd and 2700 W. Anderson Ln
Downtown, 320 E. 6th St
It doesn't get any better than the Drafthouse! Enjoy a movie, dinner, and a beer without leaving your seat (unless nature calls). We recommend the pizza and root beer float. 18 ... anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent.

Guadalupe Street near the UT Campus.
The main area includes the blocks between MLK and Dean Keaton. You can park for free at street meters on weekends. There's nearby garage parking on San Antonio and 25th Street, or behind the Co-Op on San Antonio Street. You'll find everything burnt orange in the main Co-Op bookstore. Outdoor enthusiasts, trek over to the Whole Earth Provisions on 24th Street. If you're hungry, try Veggie Heaven (Taiwanese Vegetarian), Kismet Cafe (Mediterranean), Texadelphia, or Madam Maams (Thai).

6th Street and Downtown

Choose from dozens of bars, clubs and restaurants on Austin’s famous 6th street. Live music is everywhere! Stubbs BBQ on 9th and Red River has great food and music. Try the Gingerman on 4th Street and Lavaca if you like draft beer—they have over 100 on tap.

Hot Tips:

  • Bring your bike to save your energy for the race! The regatta site is extensive, and getting from the trailers to the concessions or finish line can be tiring. You’ll also enjoy the convenience of taking the lakeside trail between prime viewing points of the race course and the finish line.
  • Tailgate in the name of team spirit! Bring your grill, your tent, your chairs, and a picnic blanket. You’ll have plenty of room to spread out.
  • Check the weather forecast ahead of time and be prepared.
