Notes on food:
Espresso at the Racecourse
Last year, one of the local high schools had a coffee stand set up to pump spectators with caffeine. They also had hot apple cider, which tastes excellent after rowing through rain. It's a great chance for coaches, parents, and athletes to grab a warm drink. There is also a stand with burgers, curly fries, nachos (the usual concession fare).

Keystone Cafe, W5th & Lawrence
Keystone Cafe is a cute little setup in Eugene with hearty all-day breakfasts and soups to appease your appetite or warm you up if the weather turns sour. There are a lot of vegetarian and vegan options, and everything is really well priced ($4-$9). The English Muffin Scramble with yeast gravy was delicious, even for a gravy die-hard like myself.

McMenamin's High Street, 1234 High Street
McMenamin's is a Northwest pub/restaurant chain, but we can't get over their cajun-style tater tots or awesome sandwiches. Try the communication breakdown burger or one of their signature brews (my favorites are the Hammerhead and the Ruby)

Grocery Shops
If you have any sort of dietary restriction or prefer your food organic, Eugene has a lot of corner markets and small grocery stores specializing in organic and natural foods. There are a number of basic supermarkets like Safeway too, if you need to pick up things for your whole team (or want to save some money)

Hotel Notes:

Hilton Eugene & Conference Center, 66 East 6th Avenue
The Hilton can be a bit expensive, but it's very comfortable and in a central location that makes looking for dinner or exploring Eugene pretty easy. There is also a parking lot across the street for bigger vehicles - just ask for a parking pass. We noticed some other rowers were staying here, too.

Hot Tips:

  • Bring waterproof jackets and pants, if you have them
  • Make sure your team has a tent or other covered area - it rained last year!
  • Dexter Lake is about 15 miles outside of Eugene, so expect to be driving for 20-30 minutes if you stay in the city.
  • Be prepared for adverse weather (heavy rain or wind, etc)
