Our... Notes on food: Aiken Brewing Company, 140 Laurens ST SW Aiken has a good brewpub in the downtown area – sit down and enjoy a pint, ribs, steak, or a good burger. There’s an outdoor seating area if the weather is decent. There is a nice downtown area in Aiken, so check out some of the other nearby stores, too. Duke’s BBQ, 4248 Whiskey Rd Rep Tari always stops here when visiting Aiken because it's great BBQ near Langley Pond for a good price. They also have hand-made chairs for sale out front. Food at the racecourse Try some boiled peanuts - I was lost, but now I'm a believer. Hotel Notes: Anything on Richland Ave There is a good strip of hotels on Richland Avenue that many visiting rowers stay in. Last year, I stayed in the Quality Inn & Suites (3608 Richland Ave), which had a continental breakfast, and the people behind the counter were very helpful. The Sleep Inn & Suites, 921 Edgefield Rd, North Augusta, SC The Langley Pond website lists the Sleep Inn & Suites because they sometimes give special rates for participant rowers. Hot Tips: Bring your bike to save your energy for the race! The regatta site is extensive, and getting from the trailers to the concessions or finish line can be tiring. You’ll also enjoy the convenience of taking the lakeside trail between prime viewing points of the race course and the finish line. Tailgate in the name of team spirit! Bring your grill, your tent, your chairs, and a picnic blanket. You’ll have plenty of room to spread out. Check the weather forecast ahead of time and be prepared.
